The Association for New Canadians celebrated Multiculturalism Week by introducing some of the newest young Canadians in St. John's. The ANC released a 9-minute video featuring kids from countries around the world who are new to Newfoundland and Labrador.
The youngsters shared thoughts on their transition to Canadian and Newfoundland lifestyle and some of the things they enjoy from their new home. In 2016, Newfoundland and Labrador exceeded its expectations for bringing in government-assisted refugees.
55 percent of the people who arrived as government-assisted refugees were 18 years old or younger and came from 8 different countries including Syria, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Iraq.
