St. John's Woman Sees Car Slip Into Water, Reports It Stolen

ST. JOHN'S, NL- The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Patrol Services Division announced in a press release on Friday that a 32-year-old St. John's woman was charged with public mischief after falsely reporting a stolen vehicle to police.

This morning, the RNC received a report from the woman that her vehicle had been stolen after being parked at the aptly named Petty Harbour wharf overnight. They discovered the vehicle in the harbour not long after and later found out the woman had known about the vehicle's location in the harbour all along.

The SUV had accidentally slipped into the harbour late Thursday night and was reported as stolen by the owner the following morning. The woman was charged and released to appear in court at a later date.
