A provincial election in Newfoundland and Labrador must be called by September 16 if Premier John Hogan wants to give candidates the shortest amount of time — 28 days — on the campaign trail.

Back-to-back government announcements indicate the writ could drop before then, according to Memorial University political scientist Kelly Blidook.
