MUN Received Over 86 Million in Government Funding Since 2006

Students at the Memorial University of Newfoundland should not take their school for granted. Since 2006, Memorial has received twice as much money from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Institute (A.C.O.A.) than any other university.

Memorial University received upwards of 86 million dollars in grant money since 2006. That is twice as much money as the eight Nova Scotian universities received combined.

Memorial took in 27 non-repayable contributions of over 1 million dollars from ACOA since 2006 for various projects around the university.  They received 110 total contributions, also more than any other university.

Memorial has just over 18 thousand students enrolled, with some of the lowest tuition rates in the country.

However, other universities did not get as much cash flow. The sole university in Nova Scotia that did not receive any funding was the University of King’s College. King’s is the oldest university in Nova Scotia but did not get any money for renovations like other universities did.

It was no surprise that of the 275 million dollars spent on post-secondary institutions, universities received 83 percent of the money. Colleges and smaller institutions received just 17 percent.
